Institute of Engineering & Technology
For over 140 years the Institute of Engineering & Technology has been informing and influencing the global engineering community. IAC value professional development and actively encourage employees to engage and join the IET.
Our apprentice scheme is approved by the Institute meaning that all graduating apprentices can apply for EngTech (Engineering Technician) status on completion of the 4 year IAC apprentice scheme. IAC pay for all apprentices to become members of the institute for the duration of their apprenticeship. This membership brings benefits such as access to the digital library, archives & forums, monthly copies of E&T magazine, access to IET events and shared best practice.
IET Approval is an endorsement of the quality of an apprenticeship:-
When the IET approves an apprenticeship they look at all the factors of delivery that have a bearing on the quality of an apprenticeship:
Only if the IET Assessors are satisfied with the evidence submitted to cover all of their criteria is Approval granted.
What does IET Approval mean to apprentices?
As long as the competence qualification has been mapped by the IET, apprentices who complete an IET Approved Apprenticeship can use their qualifications as full or partial evidence for registration to EngTech or ICTTech, in other words they can become registered as a professional Engineering or ICT Technician.
We encourage our engineers to continue with their studies and aim for CEng (Chartered Engineer) status. The company will allocate a suitably qualified mentor to sponsor individuals and provide support, training and assistance to help them achieve the standard.
IAC’s Continuous Professional Development (CPD) scheme is based on the IET’s and is given to all employees as a tool for self-development. Every individual in the company is allocated a mentor who is responsible for overseeing their training and development.
